Lucy Addition: McGarry’s Irish Pub and Eatery in Maple Plain, MN

March 15, 2010 – 6:40 pm
Bill McGarry from McGarry's Pub in Maple Plain wants you to try their Irish version of the Juicy Lucy: McGarry's Jucy Lucy 8 oz fresh ground lamb burger stuffed with drunken goat cheese topped with red wine portabelle mushrooms. That sounds pretty amazing and could get me out to Maple Plain. If you give a taste test, come back and share your review.

March 15, 2010 – 6:27 pm

The price of the Lulu seems to have gone up to $10.99 since we last posted about Lucky's. If you've been to either location, let us know how you feel about the Lulu.

Lucy Addition: Turtle’s Bar and Grill in Shakopee

March 15, 2010 – 5:56 pm
Shelley recently visited Turtle's Bar and Grill in Shakopee, MN and had this to say: I was just at Turtles in Shakopee and tried their Juicy Lucy - they were great! Definitely as good as Matt's. We may have to test the accuracy of this claim.

A Man’s First Two Minneapolis Meals: Matt’s & Matt’s

February 23, 2010 – 8:30 am
Andy Sturdevant recently recalled how he spent his first 24 hours in Minneapolis after moving to the Powderhorn Neighborhood five years ago. Frankly, it couldn't have gone any better for him. Two stops at Matt's? Perfection. We pulled into my new apartment, in a two-story house on Powderhorn Park I shared with two graduate students that I never saw again after I moved out a few months later. We unloaded all my personal effects into a pile in the living room. I didn’t have a bed yet; the plan was to drive to the IKEA in Bloomington and buy one there. There was two feet of snow on the ground. A neighbor wandered over to say hi, and told us about the May Day parade in the park. Dave and I leafed through a copy of the City Pages from a nearby newpaper box to find the closest bar for dinner. It ...

M.I.A. vs. Lucy

January 3, 2010 – 9:48 am
ambryo explains that your day is far from shot if you go to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts only to find out that the exhibit you planned to see is sold out. The fallback? A Juicy Lucy from the 5-8 Club.

A First-Timer’s Matt’s Jucy Lucy Experience

December 26, 2009 – 8:58 am
Wendy at Two Dolla gives a run-down with pics from a first timer's jucy lucy experience at Matt's Bar. The reviewer is 12 years old, so is getting a nice early start on a long life of Lucy's. I agree with "The Kid" that the cans of pop are deceptively small. It's so uncommon to drink only 12 ounces of pop in a restaurant these days that you can be caught off guard by the relatively reasonable quantity. via Emily

Jucy Addition: Newt’s in Rochester, MN

December 20, 2009 – 5:28 pm
A couple friends recently road tripped to Rochester, MN to see Dio - failed - then had jucy lucy burgers at Newt's. Reviews over beer and IM weren't particularly glowing, but they're both borderline jucy lucy snobs. Heck, one of the two lives within walking distance of Matt's.

A Blue Door Pub Edit to Wikipedia Comes and Goes

December 11, 2009 – 9:23 pm
An edit to Wikipedia's Jucy Lucy page came and went earlier today due to over the top promotions. The promoter: a fan of the Blue Door Pub: A look at the revision history shows that the edit lasted for 2 hours 54 minutes before the page was reverted back to the previous version.

Just Two Hamburgers with Melted Cheese in the Middle?

October 26, 2009 – 1:48 pm
Paul Merrill takes a break from documenting Minneapolis' architectural history on Stuff About Minneapolis to take a shot at Minneapolis' signature cuisine: But some people do bring out of town guests to Matt’s or the 5-8 Club, to give them a “only in Minneapolis” experience. Since I grew up in the northeast part of Minneapolis, I’m not quite as passionate about the debate as my southside brethren. To me it’s just two hamburgers with melted cheese in the middle. (Shhh…..do you hear that? That’s the sound of south Minneapolis tumblrs unfollowing me,) Sounds like the kind of guy who says his kids could draw that when he checks out modern art. Merrill needs some palette sensitivity training.
