The Jucy Lucy Experience

June 8, 2010 – 3:23 pm
What do you do after failing to eat 30 Jucy Lucys in 30 days? You start a new jucy lucy blog where you break down "the experience" in general rather than in daily digests. Thus starts the latest jucy lucy blog to hit the interwebs. First post? Documenting a Famous Dave's Rib Rub Jucy Lucy made at home. And, with that, they're off to a great start.

Lucy Addition: Jersey’s Bar and Grill in Inver Grove Heights

June 5, 2010 – 11:12 am
Every Monday night at 8pm you can tune into Bill Ashton's live internet show, Burgers, Beers and Bomb Shots, hosted at his restaurant, Jersey's Bar and Grill in Inver Grove Heights. Every week they will make two new Juicy Lucy's, sample beers and shots, and do some interviews. One of the featured Lucy's will become that week's Special. Bill wrote in to JLR with a description of this week's burger and a request for a critique: We feature 2 different Juciy Lucy Burgers every week and will have 104 different flavors in a year.   We also feature different beers, drinks and bomb shots and well as interview people on the show. We are fairly new at the Juicy Lucy Game but at our Restaurant we feature 3 different ones every week. The Classic filled with American Cheese, The Loaded filled with Cheddar Jack and Bacon topped with Seasoned Sour Cream and Chives, and the Juicy of the Week. We ...

Matt’s Bar in Huffington Post

May 24, 2010 – 8:07 am
Scott Barnard alerted us to a Huffington Post article about different types of burgers, in which Minneapolis' own Matt's Bar gets a shout out: Before the cooking begins, take a thin patty, top it with a wad of yellow or blue cheese, and then another patty. Pinch the edges together thoroughly and tightly so they don't leak to seal in the goodness. Matt's in in Minneapolis, MN, is the home of the original Jucy Lucy, and that's right, there's no "i" in Jucy. The molten core of the Jucy Lucy is cheese, but some folks use butter, especially herbed butter, and others insert sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions, you name it. But those are Stuffed Burgers, not Jucy Lucys.

A Jucy Lucy Recipe from AllRecipes.com

April 29, 2010 – 9:05 am
AllRecipes.com's Daily Dish email today featured the Jucy Lucy. Ingredient-wise, here is what they start with for four Lucys: * 1 1/2 pounds ground beef * 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce * 3/4 teaspoon garlic salt * 1 teaspoon black pepper * 4 slices American cheese (such as Kraft®) * 4 hamburger buns, split Surprisingly, they claim you can make them in 25 minutes, including prep time. That seems fast to me, and doesn't leave much time for savoring a Grain Belt Premium or three along the way.

Lucy Addition: Hubert’s Cafe & Sports Bar II

April 11, 2010 – 3:42 pm
Tony P has alerted us to a Deep Fried Juicy Lucy at the new Hubert's Cafe & Sports Bar location, which is replacing NBA City. Well you can add another place to the list. The Strib today said the new Hubert’s 2 (Former NBA City) has a deep fried jucy lucy. That’s a new one I haven’t seen done before. Hubert's does not appear to have a website so there is no information available other than its availability. If anyone is brave enough to try a Deep Fried Lucy please come tell us how it is.

Lucy Addition: Mainstreet Bar in Hopkins

March 20, 2010 – 9:27 am
Matt left a comment to tell us he has noticed the Mainstreet Bar in Hopkins was missing from our recent additions: I've been seeing all these updates for newly found Jucy Lucys... Why no love for Mainstreet Bar & Grill in Hopkins? They've had one for a few years now. Matt, you didn't mention if you've tried the Mainstreet Lucy. It looks like a pretty standard style. How was it?

Lucy Addition: Ugly Mug Minneapolis

March 17, 2010 – 3:17 pm
Zach Slovin wrote to tell us about the Ugly Mug Minneapolis: Just found your site and saw on the map you don't have The Ugly Mug listed as a Lucy location. They have 2 lucys on the menu, one I believe with jalepeno and bacon on the inside as well as extra cheese on top. More jalapenos! They actually have three Lucys on the menu and they all sound pretty tasty. Ready to devote an entire weekend to Ugly Mug?

Lucy Addition: Gold Nugget Tavern & Grille in Minnetonka

March 17, 2010 – 3:04 pm
Jake Whiting points us to the Jalapeno Juicy Lucy at the Gold Nugget Tavern & Grille in Minnetonka. He has a pretty high opinion of what they're doing out there: My wife and I go here fort-nightly, and most recently I had the Jalapeño Juicy Lucy. I would give it a 3 out of 4 thumbs up, with the 4th thumb pointing parallel to the horizon. I’d dock it the maximum thumbs possible for being a tad on the dry side. Proportions, architecture, internal temperature, and flavor were ALL there though. This restaurant is worth the trek down Excelsior for the meal. It’s good food. And no, I have no affiliation with the restaurant! Adding jalapenos seems deadly. And delicious. Seems like it's worth the drive.

Lucy Addition: Lord Fletcher’s in Spring Park, MN

March 15, 2010 – 6:59 pm
Tony Perkins alerts us to a Lucy on the menu at Lord Fletcher's out in Spring Park: Got another new place for you... Lord Fletcher's in Spring Lake. It seems out of place there, but it's on the menu for $11. I didn't try it but I hope to in the future. This Lucy comes with gouda, which is a pretty interesting choice. Tony, did you try it yet?
