Blue Door Pub Launching the “Merriam Park Blucy”

March 1, 2009 – 10:52 pm

Merriam Park Blucy Lucy

Merriam Park Blucy=bleu cheese, garlic and bacon on the inside and it’s topped off with red currant jelly-yum!

The Blue Door Pub is pushing the Jucy Lucy envelope once again. This time with a tribute to the neighborhood they reside in, Merriam Park, with the Merriam Park Blucy. It’s a blue cheese, garlic and bacon lucy with red currant jelly on the outside.

It’s rolling out this week with special pricing. Here are the deets from Pat McDonough:

I would like to share with you an event the Blue Door Pub will be having this week. Since we have opened, Jeremy and myself have wanted to do something special for our neighbors to say thank you for welcoming us into their incredible community. We are finally finding some time to be able to do this, we have been so busy! We are going to be unveiling our newest Blucy (our version of the juicy lucy) and we are dedicating it to the area-the “Merriam Park Blucy”. We are offering to select close neighbors, home delivery of the Merriam Park Blucy ( or anything else on the menu) for half off. Jeremy and I will be the ones delivering the food so we can get a chance to say thank you to our neighbors face to face. I just think in these bad economic times it’s good to hear about a place that is doing well and I know I would appreciate that place being in my backyard! Thank you very much for your time and have a great week!

Send in field reports!

  2. I can’t wait to try this one! I’m beginning my own search for the best Juicy Lucy in the Minneapolis metro, and given the above post, I think it’s going to be tough for anyone to beat this one in my eyes. Having lived in Merriam Park for about a year, I’m a little bit bummed that this one wasn’t introduced until after my big move. I’m not sure what I think about the bacon and red currant, but nice to see that someone is pushing the Juicy Lucy envelope and introducing something new (especially given the level of excitement I had for the offerings at Bar Abilene and the disappointment). Anyway, I’m glad I came across this blog to look to while I get started in my Juicy Lucy blogging endeavor. If you have any suggestions, let me know! I can’t wait to get started on my Juicy Lucy adventure!

  3. I went to the 5-8 bar today to get my first lucy, I saw it in man vs food. Well as soon as I stepped inside it smelled like everyone in the place stepped in dog poo. It was overpowering. I thought the place was dirty.

  4. I think that may have been a one-time thing with the 5-8. I ended up starting my Juicy Lucy search at the 5-8 last Thursday and was very happy with the experience as a whole. The restaurants wasn’t smelly at all – though there were quite a few groups of softball teams that had just stopped over from Nokomis. I ended up at Matt’s Bar the next night to see which of the two “originals” was the best. I have to say that while the 5-8 may have actually had the better burger, I tend to agree with you slightly in terms of the 5-8’s atmosphere. While I didn’t have the same experience with the smell by any means, I did feel that it lacked a certain something and that Matt’s may have made itself a bit more credible and convincing in its claim to being the home of the original Jucy Lucy.

  5. A bit late getting to your site but I have to mention that this is my favorite blucy on the menu! I am finding it difficult to try anything else as I simply crave this burger!
